‘Sugaring’ specialists for treatments at Saltair day spa Torquay

Sugaring Specialists at Saltair Day Spa-

What is body Sugaring? – “A specialised  sugar paste that is applied in the opposite direction of hair growth, allowing the paste to seep into the hair follicle and wrap around the root system. Removed in the same direction of hair growth – the hair, dead skin cells, and pore debris is removed, root systems and all.” Completely natural, antibacterial and water soluble with zero sticky residue.

Sugaring Vs Waxing:

*It’s better for your skin-

Wax adheres to whatever it comes into contact with: hair, live skin, your clothes, the sheets etc. It will remove live skin cells along with dead skin cells and unwanted hair, causing unnecessary pain and irritation. This repetitive trauma to the dermis can lead to scarring. People who have a tendency towards hyper pigmentation can result in permanent darkening of the upper lip or eyebrow tissue for example. You can visibly see the damage from waxing to the skin under a woods lamp.

Sugar paste adheres only to dead skin cells and does not disturb live skin cells. This means that after sugaring the skin is glowing and beautifully exfoliated. It is actually beneficial to the skin and will not cause hyper pigmentation or skin damage. Sugaring can still be painful because you are pulling the hairs by their roots, but significantly less  painful than waxing, because you are not ripping the skin of as well.

*It’s Natural-

This ancient method of hair removal that uses a paste of water, lemon, xanthen gum, honey and sugar. It’s so clean that it’s edible. This ingredients are also good for your skin acting as excellent humectants (helps keep moisture in the skin) whilst lemon juice acts as an astringent to the pores. Waxing is made of resins and often toxic chemicals as well. These ingredients are often irritating, if not toxic, to the skin.

*No Risk of burning-

Sugar paste needs only to be slightly warm to use unlike hot wax which can burn sensitive skin.

*No risk of contamination-

In order to avoid cross contamination an esthetician is required to use a new wax stick each time wax is removed from the pot. This is in fact the law, however, in practice it is common to “double dip”. With sugar paste the same ball of sugar is reapplied until it becomes saturated with hair. The sugar and honey are naturally antibacterial. The esthetician also uses gloves during the treatment and everything – gloves, sugar and stick is immediately discarded after use. There is no risk of cross contamination.
